Better Mississippi Initiative (BMI) exists to help improve the health of Mississippians, especially those in underserved rural communities.
2020 Census data shows us that Mississippi has the highest children and adult obesity rate, 2nd highest diabetes rate, and is the 2nd highest among the poverty rankings nationwide.
Better Mississippi Initiative is a strategic approach to help mitigate issues surrounding poor health in Mississippi. This approach involves the implementation several interventions that help empower Mississippians to take control of their health by educating them about exercise, nutrition, mental health, and its relevance to their daily lives. These interventions range from community events, wellness tool & resources boxes for kids, to an intensive BMI educational program.
